We are delighted to extend an invitation to you all for our upcoming international symposium “Situated Career Choices: University Education and Societies in Eastern Africa” Details of the symposium are as follows:
Symposium Description:
In Eastern Africa, two major changes have taken place in public education since the late 1990s: the introduction of free primary education and the popularisation of university education. These two developments, promoted under international social and human development policies, have brought about clear social changes over the past quarter-century. This symposium will discuss the social circumstances surrounding university enrollment in Kenya and other East African countries, including rural students’ access to university, women’s university enrollment and life trajectories, diversifying educational pathways such as adult learners, and family support for students pursuing higher education. It will also examine the social changes which we are experiencing, based on case studies presented by each presenter.
